There was a time when small schools
and low student-teacher ratios dominated public education.
Many older people reflect fondly on an era when schools
were free from so many of the problems that plague them
today. Today, many rural schools and a few urban schools
continue to benefit from small enrollments and highly
personalized classrooms where everyone knows each other
and cooperation and respect remain integral components
of the learning environment (Barr & Parrett, 1997).
Crossroads Middle School opened
in 1997. It is truly a school of choice. It was designed
to assist those students in the 7th and 8th grade who
struggle within the large, traditional middle schools.
Students gain confidence through their achievements at
Crossroads; a learning atmosphere that embraces hands
on learning, innovative technologies, smaller class sizes
and block scheduling.
